Gerrit Redpath


Gerrit started competitive fishing in 2016 and has since managed the SA team at two World Fly Fishing Championships.  This will be his first Commonwealth Championship, participating as an angler.  When Gerrit is not on the water and sharing his knowledge, he is working in his own business.  Gerrit is from Bloemfontein, married to Anda and have 2 beautiful daughters.

Daniel Factor


Dan started fishing before he could walk. He lives and breathes fly fishing every day of his life. He remains at the top of the SA fly fishing ladder where he has been for a number of years.  He has fished one Youth World Championship, one Oceania Championship and six Senior World Championships. This will be his first Commonwealth Championships.

David Karpul


David is new to the competitive fly fishing scene and despite this he won gold the first time he completed a South African National Fly Fishing Championships in 2017. When not fishing, he lives a vagabond lifestyle out of suitcase somewhere between Cape Town, South Africa and Australia while finishing off a PhD in Biomedical Engineering, studying neuropathy in HIV patients.

Matt Rich


Matt started competitive fishing in 2008 and has since represented South Africa at four World Championships. He is looking forward to his first Commonwealth Championship. When he not fishing, he is the Operations Manager for a listed property fund and relishes the creativity of property development. Matt is from Cape Town, married to Megs and very proud dad of a little boy.


Brett Van Rensburg


Brett has been casting a Fly line for as long as he can remember, his passion to compete and learn more about the sport guided him to the world of competitive angling just over three years ago. This will be his first international event. He Lives in Johannesburg and works for the largest Systems Integrator in Africa. When he is not fishing and working he enjoys spending time in the wild with his wife Bonnie and his 16 month old son Lincoln.
