Alan R McDade

Team Captain

Alan R McDade has fished in club level competitions, represented Ulster, and has Captained the Northern Ireland Commonwealth Fly Fishing Team to Tasmania 2012, England 2014 and Canada 2016 where the team achieved two third place (Team Bronze) and two individual runners up places. For 2018 he is the nominated Trout Anglers Federation of Ireland (TAFI) International Organiser for the 2018 Commonwealth Fly Fishing Championships being held in Northern Ireland

He won the TAFI Ulster 2014 Lakes competition and has represented TAFI Ulster at the Ireland Inter-Provincial competition. He enjoys the challenge of just fishing in the open air and being at one with nature and its surroundings. A professional engineer, he is currently employed with the accountancy firm Deloitte LLP as head of their UK Tax Admin Support team.

Alan lives in Newtownabbey, Co Antrim, with his long-suffering wife, Christine and they have three grown up children and two grandsons who will be taking up the sport in due course!

Linda Straghan

Angler

Linda has been fishing for around 30 years and has enjoyed all types of fishing in that period. She has 8 International Caps for Ireland to date fishing with the Irish Ladies Fly Fishing Team. She has been top International Individual at the Ladies Fly Fishing Championships on two occasions.
She was crowned Sportswoman of the year for County Armagh in 2013 for her fishing achievements.

When Linda's not fishing with the ladies she enjoys time fishing with fiancé Brian and 7 year old son, Sonny. Highlights so far are, team gold in 2013 and winning the Brown Bowl in 2013 & 2017. 
Linda is really looking forward to the Commonwealth Fly Fishing Championships and welcoming the other teams to her homeland of Northern Ireland.
