John Beaven

Team Manager

John was a keen angler by the time he was five years old. Mainly worms and bread dough in those days! He was given his first fly rod at 16 and has been fly fishing ever since. His first international championship was the Commonwealth in Australia in 1999. Despite a dismal personal performance, he was hooked and has since competed in seven World Championships and five Commonwealth Championships. He coached the Canadian Youth team in France and Ireland with his good friend, Donald Thom. He feels the best part of competition fishing is the friends you make and the amazing places you visit.

Donald Thom

Donald is one of the old guard having competed internationally since the world in Canada in 1993.He has 13 caps and coached the youth team for several years. He has 3 top 10 international finishes including vice world champion in 2009.He is the captain of the Commonwealth team. When he is not fishing he is hunting somewhere in North America with his English Setters. He lives on a farm in the Gatineau hills with his wife Nancy and builds custom homes.

Following two World Championships and one Commonwealths this will be his fourth international cap for Canada. He looks at competitions as an opportunity to learn from everyone and is looking forward to meeting and fishing with anglers from all countries.

When he's not fishing, coaching, organizing competitions, or competing, Todd manages his Auto Body Collision Repair and Restoration Shop, and operates a small hobby farm in the town of Maple Ridge.

Todd Oishi has been blessed to have fished the rivers, lakes, and oceans of fourteen countries for a wide variety of freshwater and saltwater fish species, and has had the honour of being selected to compete as a member of Team Canada for 7 World Fly Fishing Championships; 4 Commonwealth Fly Fishing Championships; 3 United States Fly Fishing Championships.

Being involved with the sport of competitive fly fishing has been a great adventure and journey that has provided him with the opportunity to meet some extraordinary anglers, coaches, teammates, mentors, and people that he is fortunate enough to call friends

I've been an active competitor at the National and Provincial level since 2006, and coached the first all women team to compete in a Canadian Championship. Proud to have been a member of the Gold medal team at the most recent Commonwealth Fly Fishing championships.

Colin Huff

Colin Huff began fly fishing at a very young age as his father was a seasoned fly fishing guide and Team Canada member. Colin began his competitive fly fishing career at age 13 where his team captured the silver medal at the Canadian Nationals.

A large part of Colin’s growth and experience as an angler is credited to guys like Donald Thom, John Beaven, Randy Taylor and father, John Huff. Colin Huff is now 23 years old and just received his diploma as an environmental technician. He now works for Woodside Agency which represents Simms Fishing products, Lamson and Rajeff Sports. He is excited to represent team Canada in his third CWFFC and play a part in helping his team defend their title.

David Forgeron
